Emergency 911 Response
On San Juan Island, we operate 3 advanced life support units, and
4 paramedic
first-responder vehicles. Two of our ambulances are housed at Station Number 1 located at 540 Spring Street in the Town of Friday Harbor and one is located at a Station No. 2 at Roche Harbor on the north end of the island. Our paramedic responders are located throughout the island.
Through mutual aid agreement with the San Juan County Sheriff department, we also service other
remote and wilderness non-ferry serviced islands and waterways within the county. Our paramedics and EMTs
are specially equipped and trained to handle these water
based emergencies and calls on outer islands through
specialized marine rescue equipment, marine rescue
certification, and the greatest experience level
throughout the county.
Depending on weather and availability, patients can be flown from the islands aboard a helicopter from Airlift Northwest,
on fixed wing flight with
Island Air
or taken via water aboard the Sheriff's boat.
For outer island and wilderness calls, we utilize a combination of Sheriff Boat,
Island Air, FHFD Fire Boat,
Coast Guard, and Navy copters and cutters.
