Emergency Medical TechniciansOur EMTs are some of the most highly trained in the country. They are Registered EMTs in the State of Washington, and many are Wilderness EMT certified as well. Upon completion of their EMT training, they are also required to complete clinical rotations through Harborview Medical Center's Trauma Emergency Department, and a 3 month internship as probationary EMTs on island. They are certified to use AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators), Epinephrine in severe allergic reactions, certain medication in a heart attack, advanced breathing tubes, and to monitor IVs. They have received special training in marine rescue, incident command, HIPAA privacy compliance, and emergency vehicle operations. Many are also certified Wilderness EMTs and FAA Certified Flight EMTs. Besides minimum call volume requirements, they must also attend regular continuing education on island as well as regionally. |
