San Juan Island EMS hosted a . The program took place over August 25th-28 and was attended by participants from Shaw, Orcas and San Juan Islands. Students learned material covering injury prevention and crash dynamics, seat belt systems in most models of cars, air bags, rear-facing, forward-facing and booster car seat installation. Much of the class involved hands on dynamics with problem solving installations ranging from child age, size and weight to forward and rear-facing safety best practices. In previous years, San Juan Island was the only island with a certified car seat technician. Now San Juan, Orcas and Shaw each boast TWO techs on hand to answer caregiver questions, provide safety checks and handle installations on new car seats. Phone or stop by your local EMS station to schedule an appointment to have your child’s car seat safety checked for best practices.
